Basa belongs to the Pangasiidae family, and its scientific name is Pangasius Bocourti. In the US, where it is very popular, it is often simply known as bocourti, or Basa.

Another name you may have heard Basa being referred to as, is Vietnamese cobbler. You can, therefore, guess where Basa is primarily found. The fish thrive in the Chao Phraya River and the Mekong River, which flow through numerous countries located in Southeast Asia.
